The gist: The ad-support internet supports 10 million U.S. jobs and generated $1.12 trillion last year.
More information: “The ad-supported internet contributed about $1.121 trillion to the U.S. economy last year and is responsible for more than 10 million jobs across all 50 states, according to a new study commissioned by the Interactive Advertising Bureau,” reported the Wall Street Journal.
According to the WSJ, “The report, which was led by a Harvard Business School professor on behalf of the online advertising trade group, determined that the commercial internet accounts for 6% of the U.S. gross domestic product, up from 3.7% four years ago.”
“In addition, the study found that the number of jobs created directly or indirectly by the ad-supported internet doubled from 2012 to 2016,” added the WSJ.
