While completing his BBA in Marketing Management at Baruch College, Phelan held multiple online marketing internships. After graduating college in 2004 he took his first full time role as a campaign manager at Undertone Networks, where he learned how the online media industry worked from the ground up. His other roles include client services at Atlas, Operations Manager at X+1, and Technical Account Manager at Right Media.
He has over 7 years of programmatic experience, most recently at Ziff Davis, where he was a senior director and helped build and manage their trading desk. While at Ziff Davis, Phelan was the company expert in RTB/PMP media buying, optimizing, and data targeting strategy and was responsible for overseeing trading desk daily operations, recruiting, and training the programmatic team.
Phelan has a Lhasa Apso named Yoshi. He roots for the big four sports teams of Boston (Go Pats!), and is an avid fantasy sports player. He is also big into meteorology and likes to follow hurricanes and blizzards.
